Studio of Basic Design // Concrete and Marble Notebooks.

Studio of Basic Design was founded by a team of architecture students with the aim to create everyday pieces enriched in careful and thought-out design. I first saw these notebooks on Instagram in a flat-lay photo and their minimalistic yet stylish design drew me in instantly. These notebooks are going to be perfect for my masters study when I need to take down notes and their gorgeous cover design and lined pages is bound to make me feel more motivated to get them out regularly.

Valentine's Day and The Concept of Self Love.

I've never been much of a fan of Valentine's Day. Until now. Yesterday was a magical day spent with someone very special who treated me to the most fabulous and hilarious gifts as I cooked him a ridiculously filling dinner. Valentine's Day, albeit very much a Hallmark Holiday, is a great day to spend thinking about love. This doesn't always mean thinking about the love you have for others but the love you yourself deserve.

When I was single and scraped through February 14 only slightly unscathed it was because I spent far too long thinking about what I wanted instead of what I do have. The most important relationship you will ever have will be with yourself. It is so important to remember that to truly grow in a relationship and have your partner grow with you you need to take care of yourself. This can mean anything from recognising how valuable you are as a human being, to having a spa-day, to spending a few hours writing down what you are truly grateful for and what you want to work on in the future to expelling toxic and undeserving people from your life.

The older i've gotten the more I have appreciated the concept of self-love. At first it sounded like some kind of tacky concept that was embarrassing to discuss with friends or family in the fear of sounding selfish or cliche but there really is something to it. For me the biggest representations of self love was the ability to remove toxic people from my life, to learn how to be assertive, learn more about nutrition and health, the act of mindfulness and being empathetic to my own situation as I would be to others.

This concept isn't something you should only think about on days like this but something that should always be in the back of your mind. I was told by someone once, "treat yourself the way you would want your own children to be treated." That statement truly changed the way I thought about myself. Suddenly I went from thinking about myself to thinking about a being that I would always want the best for and I realised that this should also be the way I think about myself. Whenever I think about doing something this thought always comes into my mind and it's certainly saved me from many unfortunate decisions and has also fed some very good ones.

I hope you've all had a very lovely weekend. Remember to love yourself and don't forget that people aren't mind-readers, tell them how you feel.

Normann Copenhagen.

Normann Copenhagen is a Danish design company founded by Poul Madsen and Jan Andersen in 1999. In 2001 the team met Danish designer Simon Karkov and it was this meeting that started it all with the exchanging of inspirations and ideas. Karkov shared with the team his Norm 69 Lamp that he designed back in 1969 and Madsen and Andersen loved it so much they decided to put it into production. With that, Normann Copenhagen was born as a design producer. Since then, Madsen and Andersen carefully select pieces for their ever growing range of furniture, lighting, textiles and homewares. Throughout this journey of selection and production Normann Copenhagen has picked up over 50 design awards along the way.

For Poul Madsen what makes a piece is the way it stands out from the rest. Poul states "It has to be something we look at and think “this is special, something we haven’t seen before”. What makes a design special can come from any part of the design process. Sometimes it is the function of a product which is unique, sometimes it is using a material in a new way, and sometimes it is the shape itself. It can even be as simple as the connection of two elements or something small like that. In general, we like a design to have clean lines and a certain simplicity. However, there is always that little something that adds character to the design. I guess you can call our style minimalism with an attitude”. And as we all know, that's exactly what i'm all about. So please check out the small Krenit Dish and Agnes Vase I have featured here. I am in love with the simple yet stylish design of these pieces and will definitely be picking up more in the future. They also make fantastic gifts!

Art Zimmer Linen Bedding.

Last month I discovered Northern Art Zimmer (Art Studio) and their online store through Instagram. I've been looking for a dark grey linen doona cover and pillowcases for a long time now and when I came across photos of their bed sets online I knew my search was over. The quality of their bedding is impeccable. Sleeping with this doona over me and the fan on was an absolute pleasure last night and made getting out of bed near impossible. The feel of this linen material is addictive and makes the idea of getting into bed each night just that bit more exciting. Art Zimmer sells a wide range of textiles, homewares, furniture, lamps and even furniture and wooden toys for children. Their customer service is second to none and I will definitely be purchasing from Art Zimmer again in the future.

Fawn x Fern.

Recently I came across jewellery brand FawnxFern and fell in love with their fine silver minimal rings and necklaces. At the moment I can't get enough of their open rings, as seen in the photo below in the row closest to the front. FawnxFern stocks beautiful minimal pieces that you can wear everyday or for special occasions. I love wearing their silver arc short chain necklace on nights when I go out to dinner or want to look a little bit more polished. Minimalism and monochrome lovers, you are in luck. FawnxFern is killing it right now with their styles.

* Please note arrow bracelet not FawnxFern. It is available from The Peach Box.
